Origins

Takenouchi-Ryu was originated in 1532 during the Waring States period in modern central Okayama Prefecture. It began under Hisamori Takenouchi, with a concrete form taking form after three generations. To this day, the technique and spirit of the Takenouchi house (Tsuishi, Takebe, Okayama Prefecture), and its school continues originally as passed down from generation to generation. Literature and records from this school are some of the oldest written remnants of martial arts in Japan and Takenouchi-Ryu is said to be one of the origins of contemporary Japanese Judou.

Dojou Locations

The Takenouchi School dojou is located in Okayama Prefecture and Hiroshma Prefecture (Higashi-hiroshima and Fukuyama). Takenouchi-Ryu is also practiced at Hiroshima University (Higashi-hiroshima) as part of the Traditional Martial Arts Club.
